"This book on thermodynamics is intended primarily for Honours and BSc students majoring in chemistry. However, it will also be useful to students of physics, engineering and biochemistry. The book is also well-suited to the needs of those learning or re-learning thermodynamics on their own. One principal feature is a much shorter presentation of the laws of thermodynamics, which is made possible by the definition of the thermodynamic temperature scale immediately following the Zeroth Law, using only one fixed point, the triple point of water. In addition to the usual applications to gases in equilibrium, readers will find applications to solids and liquids, and they will also learn that thermodynamics can be applied to systems that are not at equilibrium. The book contains three learning aids. Fully worked out examples are given at appropriate places in the text, which also includes numerous exercises. These are questions designed to make the reader stop and think about what he or she has just read. Answers to exercises are given at the end of each section. There are problems at the end of each chapter and solutions to the problems are given at the end of the book."--Page 4 of cover
